The Plesk File Manager includes a search tool that lets you find files by name or content. This is useful when you need to locate a specific file in a large directory structure or find files containing specific text.

Searching by File Name

  1. Log in to Plesk.
  2. Go to Websites & Domains → click your domain → Files.
  3. Click the Search icon (magnifying glass) at the top of the file list.
  4. Type the file name or part of the name you are looking for.
  5. Click the search options icon to choose the search type:
    • Filename only: Searches for matching file and folder names.
    • Content only: Searches for text inside files.
    • Filename and content: Searches both.
  6. Press Enter or click Search.
  7. Results will appear in the file list.

Searching by File Content

To find files containing specific text (e.g., a configuration value or error message):

  1. Open the search options and select Content only or Filename and content.
  2. Enter the text you want to search for.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. File Manager will scan all files in the current directory and subdirectories.

Tips for Efficient Searching

  • Search from the root directory (go up to /) to search across all files on your account.
  • Use Filename only for faster results when you know the file name.
  • Content searches can be slow for large accounts with many files.

Important Notes

  • Content search may not work with binary files (images, PDFs, compiled files).
  • Search results are limited to files within your subscription directory.

Troubleshooting

Search returns no results:

  • Verify the file name or text is correct.
  • Ensure you are searching in the correct directory (navigate to the root first).

Search is very slow:

  • Use Filename only instead of content search for faster results.
  • Contact your hosting provider if searches consistently time out.
