If you are unable to log in to Roundcube Webmail or it is loading slowly or not at all, there are several common causes. This guide covers the most frequent issues and their solutions.
Cannot Log In to Roundcube
Incorrect password:
- Ensure you are using the full email address as the username (e.g.,
[email protected]). - Check that you are entering the correct password. Passwords are case-sensitive.
- If you have forgotten your password, reset it in cPanel under Email → Email Accounts.
"Login failed" or "Connection to IMAP server failed":
- The IMAP service may be temporarily down. Try again in a few minutes.
- Clear your browser cookies and cache, then try logging in again.
- Try logging in from a different browser or in incognito/private mode.
- Check with your hosting provider if the mail server is running.
"Invalid request" or CSRF token error:
- This is usually caused by a session cookie issue. Clear your browser cookies for the webmail domain.
- Try accessing webmail directly at
yourdomain.com:2096orwebmail.yourdomain.com.
Roundcube Loading Slowly
- Large mailbox: A mailbox with thousands of emails will load slowly. Archive or delete old emails.
- Browser cache: Clear your browser cache and cookies. Old cached files can cause conflicts.
- Internet connection: Check your internet speed. Slow connections will affect webmail performance.
- Server load: The mail server may be under heavy load. Try again in a few minutes.
- Too many messages per page: Reduce the number of messages shown per page in Settings → Preferences → Mailbox View.
Roundcube Page Not Loading or Blank Screen
- Clear your browser cache and cookies.
- Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge).
- Disable browser extensions (ad blockers, privacy tools) that may interfere.
- Check if other websites on the same server are accessible — the issue may be server-wide.
Roundcube Shows "Server Error" or "500 Internal Server Error"
- This usually indicates a server-side issue. Contact your hosting provider.
- The error may be temporary — wait a few minutes and try again.
- Check if your cPanel account has reached its disk quota. Full accounts can cause server errors.
"Too many failed login attempts"
- The server blocks IP addresses after multiple failed login attempts for security.
- Wait 15-30 minutes and try again.
- If you have forgotten your password, reset it in cPanel rather than guessing repeatedly.
- Contact your hosting provider if you are permanently locked out.
Important Notes
- Always use the full email address as your username when logging in to webmail.
- Webmail credentials are the same as your email account password, not your cPanel login.
- If webmail is completely inaccessible, you can still check email using an email client (Outlook, Thunderbird) configured with IMAP/SMTP settings.
Troubleshooting
Can log in to cPanel but not webmail:
- Try accessing webmail via cPanel: go to Email → Email Accounts → click More → Access Webmail.
- This bypasses the standard webmail login page.
Webmail works on mobile data but not on Wi-Fi (or vice versa):
- Check if a firewall or network security policy is blocking webmail access on that network.
- Your workplace or ISP may be blocking non-standard ports (2095, 2096).
Attachments are not uploading:
- Check the file size. There may be an upload limit set by the server.
- Try a smaller attachment. If it works, the issue is the size limit.
