If you need to check your email without logging into webmail each time, you can use an email client like Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or the built-in mail app on your phone. This allows you to read, send, and manage emails directly from your device.

Setting Up an Email Client

You will need your email account credentials and the correct server settings. These can be found in your cPanel under Email Accounts → click Connect Devices next to your email address.

Required Settings

SettingValue
IMAP Servermail.yourdomain.com
IMAP Port993 (SSL) or 143 (non-SSL)
SMTP Servermail.yourdomain.com
SMTP Port465 (SSL) or 587 (TLS)
UsernameYour full email address
PasswordYour email account password

Steps to Configure (General)

  1. Open your email client and go to Add Account.
  2. Enter your email address and password.
  3. When prompted, choose IMAP as the account type.
  4. Enter the incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) server details shown above.
  5. Ensure SSL/TLS is enabled for secure connections.
  6. Complete the setup and test by sending an email.

Benefits of Using an Email Client

  • Offline access — read previously downloaded emails without an internet connection.
  • Push notifications — get instant alerts on your phone or desktop when new mail arrives.
  • Better organization — use folders, filters, and rules to manage your inbox efficiently.

Troubleshooting

  • "Cannot connect to IMAP/SMTP server": Verify the server hostname is mail.yourdomain.com (replace with your actual domain). Ensure SSL/TLS is enabled and ports 993/465 are not blocked by your firewall or ISP.
  • "Authentication failed" or wrong password: Reset your email password in cPanel → Email Accounts → Manage. Make sure you are using the email account password, not your cPanel login password.
  • Email client cannot find server settings automatically: Enter the settings manually using the Quick Reference table above. Some clients (Outlook) try auto-discovery first and may time out.
  • "SSL certificate error" when connecting: This happens if your domain does not have an SSL certificate installed. Contact support or ensure AutoSSL is enabled. You can temporarily bypass this by disabling SSL in your email client, but this is not recommended.
  • Emails appear on phone but not on desktop (or vice versa): Make sure both devices are using IMAP, not POP3. POP3 downloads and removes emails from the server. Switch to IMAP to keep all devices in sync.
  • Sent folder not syncing: In your email client, go to account settings and verify the sent folder mapping. Some clients default to a local sent folder instead of the server-side one.
