Roundcube lets you control how many email messages appear on each page of your mailbox view. Adjusting this setting can make it easier to scan through large inboxes or keep things compact if you prefer fewer messages visible at a time. This guide walks you through the steps and covers common issues users encounter.

1. Open Mailbox View Settings

  1. Log in to your Roundcube Webmail account.
  2. Click the Settings icon (gear ⚙️) in the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. In the left sidebar under Settings, click on Mailbox View.

2. Change the Rows Per Page

  1. Locate the Rows per page field.
  2. Enter the number of messages you want displayed per page — common values are 25, 50, or 100.
  3. Click Save at the bottom of the page.
  4. Navigate back to your mailbox. The new row count should take effect immediately.

Important Notes

  • The default is typically 40 rows per page on most hosting setups.
  • Some hosting providers set a server-side maximum (often 200). If you enter a value higher than the allowed maximum, Roundcube will silently revert to the server default without showing an error.
  • This setting applies globally — it affects all folders (Inbox, Sent, Drafts, Trash, and custom folders) within your account.
  • You can also adjust which columns are displayed (Subject, From, Date, Size, etc.) from the same Mailbox View settings page.
  • Setting a very high value (e.g., 500+) on shared hosting may cause slow page loads or timeouts, especially if your mailbox contains thousands of messages.

Troubleshooting

  • Changes not taking effect after saving: Clear your browser cache (Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R) or log out and log back in. Roundcube caches mailbox preferences in your browser session.
  • "Rows per page" field not visible: Your hosting provider may have disabled this option in Roundcube's configuration. Look for the field under Settings → Mailbox View. If it is completely absent, open a support ticket to have it enabled.
  • Page loads slowly or times out after changing the value: Lower the rows per page to 50 or fewer. If your mailbox is very large, consider archiving or deleting old messages to improve performance.
  • Setting keeps reverting to default: This can happen if your browser is blocking cookies from the webmail domain. Check that cookies are enabled for your webmail URL and that no browser extension (privacy blockers, ad blockers) is clearing them automatically.
  • Want different row counts for different folders: Roundcube does not support per-folder row counts. The value you set applies to all folders. If you need folder-specific views, consider using an IMAP desktop client like Thunderbird instead.
