JetBackup provides a dedicated tool in cPanel to back up and download your SSL certificates. This is useful if you need to migrate your website, restore a certificate after a server issue, or keep an offline copy for security purposes.

How to Backup Your SSL Certificate via JetBackup

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Navigate to the JetBackup section in the dashboard.
  3. Click SSL Cert Backups.
  4. Locate the date of the backup you want to download.
  5. Click Generate Download Link next to the desired backup.
  6. Click OK in the confirmation prompt.
  7. Wait for the system to prepare the file (this may take a few moments).
  8. Click the Download link to save the backup archive to your computer.

Alternative: Manual Backup via cPanel SSL/TLS

If JetBackup SSL backups are not available on your account, you can manually download your certificate:

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Go to SSL/TLS Status or SSL/TLS → Certificates.
  3. Find your domain and click View Certificate.
  4. Copy the certificate text and save it as a .crt file.
  5. For the private key, go to SSL/TLS → Private Keys and download the key for your domain.

Important Notes

  • The JetBackup archive typically contains the SSL certificate, private key, and CA bundle in a single file. Store it securely — anyone with the private key can impersonate your website.
  • SSL backups are only available if your hosting provider has enabled the JetBackup SSL schedule. If no backups appear, this feature may not be configured for your plan.
  • Backup retention depends on your hosting provider's settings. Backups may be automatically deleted after a set period (e.g., 7 or 30 days).
  • Download links are temporary and expire after a short time. Download the file immediately after generating the link.

Troubleshooting

  • No SSL backups listed: Your hosting provider may not have scheduled SSL certificate backups. Contact support to request this feature be enabled.
  • Download link expired: Generate a new link. JetBackup links are temporary and cannot be reused.
  • Download fails or file is corrupted: Clear your browser cache, try a different browser, or use an incognito window. If the issue persists, contact support — the backup file on the server may be corrupted.
  • JetBackup section is missing from cPanel: JetBackup may not be installed on your server, or your hosting plan may not include it. Use the manual method above instead.
  • Cannot find private key in cPanel: Some hosting configurations restrict private key access. Contact support and we can provide your key directly.
