A parked domain is an additional domain name that points to your primary domain and displays the exact same website content. It is commonly used when you own multiple domain variations (for example, mybusiness.co.za and mybusiness.com) and want all of them to resolve to the same site. Parked domains share the primary domain's web statistics and do not have their own email accounts.

How to Create a Parked Domain

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. Navigate to the Domains section and click Parked Domains.
  3. In the Create a New Parked Domain field, enter the domain name you wish to park (e.g., mybusiness.co.za).
  4. Click Add Domain.
  5. The parked domain will now resolve to your primary domain's website.

Important Notes

  • Parked domains share the primary domain's email. You cannot create separate email accounts like [email protected] — email for parked domains routes to the primary domain. If you need independent email, use an Addon Domain instead.
  • The domain you are parking must already be registered and its nameservers must point to your hosting provider's DNS servers before it will work.
  • DNS propagation can take up to 24–48 hours after changing nameservers.
  • Parked domains are different from addon domains. Parked domains mirror the primary site; addon domains host separate websites with their own content.
  • Most hosting plans have a limit on the number of parked domains you can create. Check your plan details or contact support if you are unsure.

Troubleshooting

  • "Error from park wrapper: domain is already configured": The domain is already set up as an addon domain, subdomain, or alias on the server. Check cPanel → Domains → Addon Domains and Subdomains to see if it exists elsewhere.
  • Parked domain shows default cPanel page: DNS has not propagated yet. Wait up to 48 hours. You can check propagation at whatsmydns.net by searching your domain's A record.
  • Parked domain not loading in browser: Verify the domain's A record points to your server's IP. Go to cPanel → Domains → Zone Editor and check that the parked domain has an A record matching the primary domain.
  • SSL certificate warning when visiting parked domain: The parked domain needs its own SSL certificate. If your hosting supports AutoSSL, it should automatically issue a certificate within 24 hours. If not, contact support.
  • Want separate email for the parked domain: Convert the parked domain to an addon domain (remove it as parked, then add as addon). This gives you independent email accounts and web space.
