To use your domain with your Allanux Web hosting account, you must change your domain's nameservers to point to ours. This tells the internet where to find your website and email. Nameserver changes typically take 2-24 hours to fully propagate.
Allanux Web Nameservers
The correct nameservers for your domain depend on the server your account is hosted on. You can find your specific nameservers in your Allanux Web welcome email or by contacting support.
Step 1: Find Your Current Nameservers
- Go to whatsmydns.net.
- Select NS from the dropdown.
- Enter your domain name and click Search.
- This shows your current nameservers and whether they have propagated.
Step 2: Change Nameservers at Your Registrar
Go to the website where you purchased your domain (registrar) and follow their process. Common South African registrars:
At .co.za Domains (registered through various registrars)
- Log in to your domain registrar (e.g., CO.ZA, Domains.co.za, Name.co.za, etc.).
- Find Domain Management or Nameservers for your domain.
- Replace the existing nameservers with Allanux Web's nameservers.
- Save the changes.
At International Registrars (Namecheap, GoDaddy, Google Domains, etc.)
- Log in to your registrar account.
- Go to Domain Management → Nameservers.
- Select Custom Nameservers (do not use the registrar's default).
- Enter the two Allanux Web nameservers.
- Save the changes.
Step 3: Wait for Propagation
- Nameserver changes take 2-24 hours to propagate globally.
- During propagation, some visitors may see your old site while others see your new one.
- You can check propagation progress at whatsmydns.net.
Step 4: Verify
- Once propagated, visit your domain in a browser — your Allanux Web website should appear.
- Also verify email is working by sending a test email to your domain address.
Important Notes
- Only change nameservers if your domain is registered with a different company than your hosting. If your domain is already registered with Allanux Web, the nameservers are already correct.
- You must have at least two nameservers. Allanux Web provides two nameservers for each server.
- If you have an SSL certificate through Cloudflare or another CDN, you may need to update your DNS records there instead of changing nameservers.
- Nameserver changes do not affect your domain registration — you still own the domain and can transfer it anytime.
Troubleshooting
- "Nameservers not found" or "Invalid nameservers": Double-check the spelling of the nameservers exactly as provided by Allanux Web. Even a small typo will cause the change to fail.
- Website still shows old site after 24 hours: Check propagation at whatsmydns.net. If nameservers show Allanux Web but the site hasn't changed, clear your browser cache and try in an incognito window. Also check that DNS records (A record) in cPanel Zone Editor point to the correct server IP.
- Email stops working after changing nameservers: MX records may need to be reconfigured in your new hosting. Go to cPanel → Zone Editor and verify your MX records are correct.
- Cannot find where to change nameservers: Nameservers are managed at your domain registrar (where you bought the domain), not at your hosting provider. If you are unsure where your domain is registered, use a WHOIS lookup tool.
- Domain registrar requires verification: Some registrars send a confirmation email before applying the nameserver change. Check your inbox (and spam folder) and click the verification link.
