The display name is the name recipients see in the "From" field when you send an email. By default, cPanel uses the full email address as the sender name. You can change this to your preferred name (e.g., "John Doe" instead of "[email protected]") through Roundcube Webmail.

How to Change Your Email Display Name

  1. Log in to Webmail by navigating to yourdomain.com/webmail or yourdomain.com:2096.
  2. If prompted to select a mail client, choose Roundcube.
  3. Click the Settings icon (gear) in the top-right corner.
  4. In the left sidebar, click on Identities.
  5. Click on your email address to open the identity settings.
  6. In the Display Name field, enter the name you want recipients to see (e.g., Allan from Allanux Web).
  7. Click Save to apply the change.

How to Create a New Identity

If you need multiple sender identities (e.g., personal and business), you can create additional identities:

  1. Go to SettingsIdentities.
  2. Click the + button or Create to add a new identity.
  3. Fill in the display name, email address, and optional signature.
  4. Click Save. You can then select this identity when composing emails.

Important Notes

  • Display name changes apply only to emails sent from Webmail (Roundcube). If you use a desktop client (Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail) or a mobile app, you must update the display name in that application's account settings separately.
  • Some email providers may display the email address instead of your custom display name depending on their spam filter settings.
  • The display name does not affect your email address or login credentials.
  • Changes take effect immediately for new outgoing messages.

Troubleshooting

  • Settings or Identities option is missing: Ensure you are in Roundcube and not another Webmail client (e.g., Horde). Click your username in the top-right corner and switch to Roundcube.
  • Recipients still see the old name: Some email clients cache sender display names. The updated name will appear correctly for new contacts and in most email headers.
  • Cannot save changes: Clear your browser cache and try again, or access Webmail in an incognito/private window to rule out extension conflicts.
