If you have previously exported your Roundcube address book (e.g., as a vCard .vcf or CSV file), you can restore those contacts using the built-in import feature. This guide covers importing contacts in Roundcube Webmail.

Step 1 — Log in to Webmail

  • Navigate to your webmail login page (typically https://yourdomain.com/webmail or https://yourdomain.com:2096).
  • Enter your email address and password, then select Roundcube as your webmail client.

Step 2 — Open the Address Book

  • In the Roundcube toolbar (top-left area), click on Address Book.

Step 3 — Initiate the Import

  • Click the Import button in the toolbar above the contact list.
  • A dialog window will appear prompting you to select a file.

Step 4 — Select and Upload Your Backup File

  • Click Choose File (or Browse) and select your backup file (.vcf (vCard) format).
  • Click Upload (or Import) to process the file.
  • Roundcube will display a preview of the contacts found in the file.
  • Review the list and click Import to confirm.

All contacts from the file will be added to your Roundcube address book.

Important Notes

  • Supported format: vCard (.vcf), which is the natively supported import format in Roundcube. Note: CSV import requires the Roundcube CSV import plugin, which may not be enabled on all servers.
  • Duplicate handling: If a contact with the same email address already exists, Roundcube will skip or flag the duplicate — it does not overwrite existing entries.
  • File size: Very large address books may take a moment to process. If the import times out, try splitting the file into smaller batches.

Troubleshooting

  • Import button not visible: Make sure you are in the Address Book section, not the Mail section. The Import option only appears when managing contacts.
  • "File type not supported" error: Verify your file is in vCard (.vcf) format. Text files or Excel spreadsheets need to be converted first.
  • Contacts appear blank: Open your .vcf file in a text editor to confirm it contains valid vCard data (should start with BEGIN:VCARD).
