Overview
Roundcube allows you to export contacts from your Address Book for backup or migration purposes. Contacts are exported in standard vCard (.vcf) format, which is compatible with most email clients, phone contacts apps, and spreadsheet software.
Steps to Export Contacts
- Log in to Roundcube Webmail.
- Click the Address Book icon in the top toolbar (or press
Aon your keyboard). - Choose which contacts to export:
- All contacts: Go to step 3 directly.
- Selected contacts: Hold
Ctrl(Windows/Linux) orCmd(macOS) and click each contact to select them.
- Click the Export button in the toolbar above the contact list.
- Select Export all (for all contacts) or Export selected (for only the contacts you highlighted).
- A
.vcffile will be downloaded to your computer, typically saved in your Downloads folder.
Importing Exported Contacts
You can import the exported .vcf file into:
- Roundcube (another account): Use the Import button in the Address Book.
- Gmail/Google Contacts: Go to Google Contacts → Import → select the
.vcffile. - Outlook: File → Open & Export → Import/Export → Import a vCard file.
- Apple/Android: Open the
.vcffile directly — the OS will prompt to add the contacts.
Important Notes
- Only contacts stored in Roundcube's built-in address book are exported. If your address book is synced with an external LDAP directory, those contacts may not be exportable from Roundcube.
- The vCard format preserves names, email addresses, phone numbers, and organization details.
- There is no limit on the number of contacts you can export at once.
Troubleshooting
- "No contacts to export" error: Ensure you have contacts saved in the Roundcube address book and not just in a global/LDAP directory.
- Download not starting: Disable any download-blocking browser extensions and allow popups from the webmail domain.
