When you create a new hosting package in WHM, cPanel uses a default bandwidth limit if you don't specify one. This guide shows you how to set that default value via WHM Tweak Settings.

Step 1: Log in to WHM

Open your browser and navigate to https://your-server:2087. Enter your root credentials to log in.

Step 2: Navigate to Tweak Settings

In the left-hand menu, go to Home » Server Configuration » Tweak Settings.

Step 3: Find the Bandwidth Setting

Use the search bar at the top of the Tweak Settings page and type bandwidth. Look for the option labelled Default bandwidth limit for new packages.

This setting defines the default monthly bandwidth (in megabytes) assigned to any new cPanel package you create.

Step 4: Set the Default Value

Enter the desired bandwidth value in Megabytes (MB). For example:

  • 1024 — 1 GB monthly bandwidth
  • 10240 — 10 GB monthly bandwidth
  • Unlimited — No bandwidth restriction (if supported)

Step 5: Save Changes

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.

Important Notes

  • This setting only applies to new packages. Existing packages will not be affected.
  • You can still override the default value when creating individual packages.
  • Enter 0 or unlimited to set unlimited bandwidth by default.
  • Changes take effect immediately for new packages created after saving.

Troubleshooting

  • Cannot find the option: Use the search/filter bar at the top of Tweak Settings to locate it quickly.
  • New packages still show old value: Verify the package was created after you saved the setting. Pre-existing packages retain their original limits.
  • Bandwidth limit not enforced: Ensure that bandwidth limiting is enabled in Home » Server Configuration » Tweak Settings.
