The Accounts that can access a cPanel user account setting in WHM controls which users are permitted to log in to a cPanel account. This is a server-wide security setting that affects all cPanel accounts on your server. You can restrict access to the account owner only, or allow additional users such as resellers and sub-accounts to log in.
Steps to Configure Access Permissions
- Log in to WHM as the root user.
- Navigate to Home » Server Configuration » Tweak Settings.
- Click the Security tab, or use the search box and type
Accounts that can access. - Find the Accounts that can access a cPanel user account setting.
- Select your preferred option from the dropdown:
- The account owner may log in to the account's cPanel interface — Only the cPanel account owner can log in. Resellers and sub-accounts cannot access the cPanel interface.
- Only the account owner and reseller(s) with access to the account may log in — The account owner and any resellers who have been granted access to the account can log in.
- Any user on the account may log in to the cPanel interface — All users associated with the account, including email accounts, FTP accounts, and sub-accounts, can log in to cPanel. This is the least restrictive option.
- Click Save at the bottom of the page to apply your changes.
Important Notes
- This setting applies server-wide to all cPanel accounts. It cannot be configured per individual account.
- If you choose the most restrictive option, resellers who manage accounts will not be able to access their clients' cPanel interfaces.
- Changes take effect immediately after saving — no server restart is required.
- This setting does not affect WHM access; it only controls cPanel interface login permissions.
Troubleshooting
- Resellers cannot access client cPanel: Ensure the setting is not set to "The account owner may log in" only. Use the middle or least restrictive option.
- Sub-accounts cannot log in to cPanel: The setting may be too restrictive. Change it to allow any user on the account.
- Can't find the setting: Use the Tweak Settings search bar and type
Accounts that can access. The option is located under the Security tab.
