The Account disk quota warn percentage setting in WHM controls when cPanel sends an automatic warning notification to account owners about their disk usage. This early warning helps users manage their storage proactively before reaching their hard quota limit, preventing unexpected site outages due to full disk space.

Step 1: Log in to WHM

Open your browser and navigate to https://your-server-ip:2087. Enter your root credentials to access the WHM dashboard.

Step 2: Navigate to Tweak Settings

In the left-hand sidebar, go to Home » Server Configuration » Tweak Settings.

Step 3: Find the Quota Warn Setting

Use the search bar at the top of the Tweak Settings page and type warn. Look for the option labelled Account disk quota warn percentage.

Step 4: Set the Warning Percentage

Enter a value between 0 and 100. This represents the percentage of the account's disk quota at which cPanel will trigger a warning email.

  • 80 — Warning at 80% usage (recommended default, gives users time to act)
  • 90 — Warning at 90% usage (less advance notice)
  • 50 — Warning at 50% usage (early warning for accounts with rapid growth)

Step 5: Save Changes

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.

Important Notes

  • The warn percentage must be lower than the account's actual disk quota limit to be effective.
  • Ensure the Disk quota usage warnings option (found in the same Tweak Settings area) is also enabled — this toggle activates the warning system globally.
  • Warning emails are sent to the cPanel account's contact email address, configured by the user under Preferences » Contact Information.
  • This is a server-wide setting that applies to all cPanel accounts on the server.
  • Warnings are triggered by the system's periodic disk usage check, not in real time. There may be a slight delay between reaching the threshold and receiving the notification.

Troubleshooting

  • Users not receiving quota warnings: Verify that Disk quota usage warnings are enabled in Tweak Settings and the warn percentage is set to a valid value. Also confirm the account's contact email is correct and not being filtered as spam.
  • Cannot find the option: Use the search/filter bar at the top of Tweak Settings and type quota warn. The setting is located under the Notifications tab.
  • Too many warning emails: Increase the warn percentage (e.g., from 80 to 90) to reduce notification frequency.
