The Account Invites for Subaccounts setting in WHM allows cPanel account holders to send invitation links to sub-account users (email accounts, FTP accounts, and other auxiliary users). When enabled, sub-account users receive a link to set their own password rather than depending on the main cPanel account holder to set it for them. This reduces support requests and gives sub-account users more independence.

Step 1: Log in to WHM

Open your browser and navigate to https://your-server-ip:2087. Enter your root or reseller credentials to access the WHM dashboard.

Step 2: Navigate to Tweak Settings

In the left-hand sidebar, go to Home » Server Configuration » Tweak Settings.

Step 3: Locate the Setting

Use the search bar at the top of the Tweak Settings page and type Account Invites. The setting is called Account Invites for Subaccounts and is located under the System tab.

Step 4: Enable the Setting

Toggle the Account Invites for Subaccounts option to On.

Step 5: Save Changes

Click the Save button at the bottom of the page to apply the change.

How It Works

  • When enabled, cPanel users can send invitations to new sub-account users via cPanel’s User Manager interface (cPanel » Home » Preferences » User Manager).
  • The invitation includes a time-sensitive link where the sub-account user can set their own password.
  • This also enables the Send login link to alternate email address option in cPanel’s Create an Email Account interface (cPanel » Home » Email » Create an Email Account).

Important Notes

  • This setting controls invitations for sub accounts (email accounts, FTP accounts, and auxiliary users), not the main cPanel account password.
  • The change takes effect immediately for all cPanel accounts on the server.
  • When this option is disabled, sub-account users must rely on the cPanel account holder to set or change their passwords.
  • This is particularly useful for hosting providers who want to reduce support requests for password resets.
  • This is a server-wide setting that applies to all accounts.

Troubleshooting

  • Cannot find the option: Make sure you are looking under the System tab in Tweak Settings. Try searching for Account Invites or Subaccounts in the search bar.
  • Sub-account users still cannot reset passwords: Ensure the cPanel user is using the User Manager interface to send the invitation, and that the invitation link has not expired.
  • Option does not appear: Some server profiles may hide certain settings. Verify your server uses the Standard server profile.
