In Plesk, the reseller is an intermediary between the hosting provider and end customers. Understanding the distinction between reseller, customer, and administrator roles helps you manage your business effectively.
The Three User Roles in Plesk
- Administrator: The server owner or hosting provider. Has full control over the server, all resellers, and all customers.
- Reseller: Purchases hosting resources from the administrator and resells them to customers. Can create service plans, manage customers, and allocate resources. Does not have server-level access.
- Customer: An end user who purchases hosting from a reseller. Can manage their own websites, email, and databases within the limits set by the reseller.
What Resellers Can Do
- Create and manage customer accounts.
- Create and modify service plans (hosting plans offered to customers).
- Create and manage subscriptions (assigning plans to customers).
- Suspend or activate customer accounts and subscriptions.
- Manage domains, websites, email, databases for their own subscriptions.
- View traffic and resource usage across all customers.
- Log in as a customer to troubleshoot issues from the customer perspective.
What Resellers Cannot Do
- Install or configure server-level software.
- Modify server-wide PHP settings or Plesk extensions (unless permitted by the administrator).
- Manage other resellers accounts.
- Access server shell (SSH) as root.
Important Notes
- If you need a feature that is not available, contact your hosting provider (the administrator).
- Resources used by your own subscriptions count against your reseller limits.
Troubleshooting
"Access denied" when trying to access a server setting:
- The setting may require administrator-level access. Contact your hosting provider.
